WOODSTOCK was a matter of international ROCK N ROLL importance.
It doesn't matter that Creedence didn't perform to their stratospheric best...what matters is that they were THERE!
They were the HUGE DRAW that made all those millions of American hippies leave their homes in droves and get to the Woodstock Music Festival.
These kids may have been hippies and outcasts, or they could have been studious university students or young professionals, but they all left their own lives
for a fleeting glimpse of the best rock acts in the planet.

Rock and roll was such a driving force in the 1960's. Rock was raging against the establishment and these musicians rallied for change.
All of youth wanted to bear witness to the force of the stage....Creedence was unbelievably COOL and to see them was golden.
Four young whites who sounded black....they had a sound like no other and it was natural......
As for the headliner, Jimi Hendrix...he was a force to be reckoned with as well...a black guitarist/vocalist who was really more rock than R & B.

Creedence was a major draw for many folks to go and see......
All the acts like the Grateful Dead were huge attractions as well....it's too bad Jerry Garcia had to drag his set out into the wee hours of the morning, but he did it and that's what makes the legacy of rock so quirky and unpredictable.
There were no rules and even if there were some rules, nobody was so inclined to obey the rules.

IT wasn't anarchy, it was just people making music and loving the music to the Nth degree.

Creedence was the heavy draw though.
Make no mistake about it...I don't have the words to describe to you the major force that this little band had over the world. Their music was so raw, pure and different, yet people of all ages LOVED IT like none other.

Too bad John hid his performance from the world for so long, but he couldn't conceal it for a second.

He was pulled into the vortex of WOODSTOCK and it will never let him go, but this is what makes his act so legendary.
He wanted to be there.....he was there....he did his best.....he didn't like his performance so much....but the world drank it up like a fine wine.

He kept up his end of the bargain and now he's rock royalty.

I think it's all fair in the end....X O
