Not permitting the CCR footage to appear on the original Woodstock film has to be one of the most baffling and erroneous decisions JF has ever made. Im sure it was several months after the event, when the film was being edited, that the final decision was made, months in which Woodstock achieved almost mythical status and to turn down a chance to be part of that is quite unbelievable. Until the Directors Cut (what changed to allow CCR in that, I wonder), most people may not have been aware the band even played the Festival.

So what if it wasn't note perfect. No live show ever is. Woodstock made a superstar of many, including Richie Havens. What it would have done for the already established CCR, we will never know.

I think there is a common thread running through JF's career, from early days till even now and that is the lack of professional management and advice. Muddling along, keeping it in house has led to some rather poor decisions  over the years.

If the Beatles had played Woodstock, would Brian Epstein have allowed them to stay out of the movie.... I doubt it.
